The Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) System is a bone-conserving surgical procedure.  It is less invasive than a total hip replacement.  In a total hip replacement the entire joint is replaced with an implant system.  In the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) System, the ball-and-socket joint is left mostly intact.  Only a few centimeters of bone are removed from the ball-and-socket joint when using this technique.  The BHR System offers the patient the ability to keep more of their natural joint than other total hip replacement techniques.
